Wet Belt Replacement Derby
A wet belt (belt-in-oil) is a timing belt that runs inside the engine oil rather than in a dry compartment. Because the belt and oil share the same environment, condition, specification and contamination all matter, which is why replacement includes checking the oil pickup, not just fitting a new belt.

A new belt doesn't remove old debris by itself
If loose belt material has entered the lubrication system, it can restrict an oil pickup or strainer, and a new belt on its own won't clear that. Where contamination risk is present, we inspect and, where accessible, clean the pickup area as part of the job rather than assuming the engine is fine simply because it still runs.

Oil-pressure warning? This can mean debris restriction or another lubrication fault, and damage may already exist. Stop driving and arrange a diagnostic assessment rather than continuing the journey.

When should a wet belt be changed?
Intervals vary by engine, age, mileage and manufacturer updates. Condition and service history may justify earlier replacement than a generic figure.
Will replacement cure an oil-pressure warning?
Not automatically. A warning can mean debris restriction or another lubrication fault, and damage may already exist. The cause needs diagnosing.
Why does oil specification matter so much on a wet belt?
Modern engines rely on specific lubricant performance for the belt, turbo and emissions systems, not viscosity alone. The wrong oil can accelerate wear.
